Doom has a large community of players, map authors and even mod authors. Insanity Deathmatch is a PK3 mod for multiplayer deathmatch of DOOM II recommended for 4-64 players, depending on map size.

Similary, the Doom Builder 64 branch has added features specific to the Doom 64 game. Another branch ( Ultimate Doom Builder) has completely specialized the editor for the GZDoom sourceport and has added tools to editor special GZDoom features such as dynamic lighting and 3D floors. Many command line options are useful for demo recording. One such branch ( Doom Builder X) focuses on continuous improvements while keeping the editor in its classic fashion and generic for all Doom soureceports. Keep in mind that a custom map using doom as an iwad would be complevel 3, a map using doom 2 would be complevel 2, etc. Since the first release of Doom Builder there has been great enthousiasm from other community members in continuous development and addition of more advanced features specialized to certain Doom sourceports (forks). When I try to load a map I create using textures from doom.wad, DOOM2.wad, tnt.wad and plutonia.wad I am missing textures depending on which iwad I choose to run the game with.
